Back story: My bedsides had rusted as all these trucks do, so I welded in new bed sides and got a new tailgate last fall hoping to get it painted before winter. Winter had other plans:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

So I started into finishing the body work I didn’t get done last fall:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Driver’s side all sanded out. Got the passenger side sanded as well. I have a high spot on the passenger side I have to smooth out yet, otherwise the sides are ready.

Then I proceeded to go to the tailgate and found a rusty mess from not getting it painted last winter. So I sanded the rust off, cleaned it up, and decided I was going to lay a protective coating on it. Thought I had some black laying around, turns out I didn’t. I did have a lot of random colors though, so this became my temporary tailgate:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I’ll sand it out and paint it back to factory when I do the rest of the truck.

I think I’d have a hard time selling it with the tailgate like that. If we were keeping it I would. I would also paint the bottom like that.

I’m pretty sure you’re, like, five people because I’ve never seen anyone with so much free/project time before. Are you an early retiree?

Work 10 hr days 5 days a week and usually 5-6 hrs on Saturday. I do my own work when I get home from work, usually from around 5 pm til around 10 pm.

Usually the kids are involved in helping as they enjoy working on things and it’s good bonding time.

I used to, I just decided I have better things to spend my time/money on than drinking.

Ya. We hardly use it anymore since we finished our house. We have 2 other vehicles and the wife works from home so it just sits most of the time.

It’s an 04 with 147k.

Spend my time on family and projects.

Never been a fan of the bar scene.

6.0 right? How do you like it? I’ve heard they are great engines if you leave them stock...if you start tuning and cranking up the power you need to bulletproof them which is why they have the reputation they do

I don’t care for the bar scene either, but I love having some friends over and having a few beers. A nice light ice cold beer on a hot summer day is the best. But I get it, I don’t drink a ton and I’m always thinking, “Don’t you have anything better to do?” when I see people just always out drinking

I can appreciate a man with priorities. I had a few fraternity brothers in college who didn’t drink. Which seems like an oxymoron but was never a thing.

Ya 6.0. Love it now.

We bought it with 90k on it. Within 3 months of buying it, everything went to hell. Replaced the transmission, upgraded injectors, studded it, upgraded oil cooler, upgraded hpop, egr delete, among other things I’m sure I’m forgetting. So my initial opinion of it was not good. Granted, I’m pretty sure the PO was not good on maintenance and towed a heavy camper regularly.

Since doing all the major work, it’s been great outside of needing an injector on occasion. I’ve added an S&B Intake, full 4" straight pipe, and a mild tune. It’s clean, fuel efficient, and tows like crazy.

I don’t really want to sell it as I finally am at a point I could start playing with it more, but the wife and I agree, there’s no sense keeping something we don’t use.

Never been real big on drinking altogether, but I think I quit after seeing numerous friends/neighbors relationships come crashing down due to drinking.

I usually go for good hard liquor when I feel like drinking (2 fingers, single cube), never had a taste for beer.

I see so many people around here do nothing but work and drink, it honestly makes me sad. How are people’s lives so terrible that they have nothing better to do than drink? That’s always been my question.

That would have been truer to myself.
